Happier Together: How Spreading Joy Boosts Wellbeing and Mental Health

Happier Together is the theme of the International Day of Happiness 2025.

This day is held every year on March 20th, the International Day of Happiness and it celebrates the idea that part of humanity's progress should include how to increase happiness and wellbeing.

Let's carry the torch of happiness forward, spreading joy wherever we go. At this time of uncertainty and conflict, this year's 'Happier Together' theme reminds us that lasting happiness comes from feeling connected to others and being part of something bigger.

The most wonderful thing you can do is to continue to be happy and to share happiness with others.

I think happiness and joy are very important to our health especially our mental health. Happiness is a feeling that lightens a mood and when you are smiling it's harder to feel down.

When I wear bright fun colours to work I know it brings others joy as they tell me, it is also fun to be bright and bold, be brave give it a go.

Fun Fact - adults smile on average around 20 times a day with the happier adults 40-50 while a child smiles approx. 400 times a day!! We need to be more childlike again, see more joy in everything around us.

"Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times; if only one remembers to turn on the light." – JK Rowling

Here are a few ideas that you you could try today to bring some happiness to your life and others:

  • 1) Do a random act of kindness, for me it will be buying a coffee for a colleague
  • 2) Do something that makes you incredibly happy, for me it will be singing loudly in the car and wearing bold bright #bekeane leggings
  • 3) Show gratitude to people that you love, send them a message telling them how much they mean to you
  • 4) Promote happiness and spread it around, share the message on your socials and post bright vibrant pictures, like these fun granny's  below you can't help but smile
  • 5) Take a step towards creating a happier environment, remove socials that don't make you smile, and wear your brightest boldest #bekeane leggings

Here are some of my personal favourites things to do could do!

Spend time with people who lift you up, rather than people who drain you. Take a walk through nature and use your five senses to connect with the world around you: sight, smell, sound, touch, and taste. Make a list, happiness board, vision board, or journal about everything that brings you happiness.

Tell me what are you going to do to encourage more happiness in your life?
